Human Foods Cats Can Eat

Are there foods you and your cat can share? There are!

People often have to deal with choosing whether to feed their pet dog food from the table, especially if it begs, but one might also wonder what human foods cats can eat. Is it safe to feed them food outside of dry or wet cat food? Let’s go over what human foods cats can eat, starting with meat.

Types of Meat That Cats Can Eat

Lean, non-salted meats and game meats are all fair game for your pet cat. In general, cats will thrive off of non-fatty, cooked meat and seafood, as they are carnivores by nature. Many four-legged creatures, birds, and fish are all safe for your cat to have as a meal or treat.

Types of Meat Cats Can’t Eat

Meanwhile, it is safe to conclude that cats can’t eat fatty, high-sodium meats. They should also avoid oily, fried foods. Additionally, you should not give your cat cooked bones to chew on, as they can be brittle and injure your cat’s mouth or internal organs. Raw bones can be okay. Raw foods, however, are not so safe for your cat, as they can have harmful pathogens that are harmful to human health as well. If you have questions, please consult your veterinarian.

Can Cats Eat Eggs or Dairy?

It is safe to feed cats cooked eggs, as long as they are unsalted and not oily. Cooked eggs are an excellent source of protein for cats aside from cooked meats, cooked fish, and commercial cat food.

As for dairy, most cats are lactose-intolerant, but they can still enjoy some forms of dairy, such as milk, yogurt, cheese, and cottage cheese in small amounts. Some cats, however, will not be able to tolerate any of it.

What about Other Food Groups?

Cats can also eat a variety of fruits, roots, and vegetables. Bananas, apples, melons, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, broccoli, and spinach are just a few of the options that are safe and healthy for your cat.

What Cats Can’t Eat

Cats cannot eat grapes, raisins, chocolate, mushrooms, caffeine, alcohol, fat trimmings, or sweeteners. Don’t forget that garlic and onions are off-limits, as well!

Remember, before feeding your cat anything other than a recommended cat food, it is best to check if it is safe for cats to eat or not first.
