Your pet dog surely likes a treat now and then. You might even have considered giving it pieces of food from your dinner plate. Although it is best to stick with dog food for your dog rather than offering human food from the plate, your dog can benefit from numerous “human” foods. Be sure to know what is off limits, such as xylitol, grapes, and garlic, but also take stock of these good healthy snacks for dogs.
Blueberries and Strawberries
Blueberries are extremely healthy for people and canines. They are rich in antioxidants and other vitamins that help dogs live longer, stay free of cancer, maintain brain health, and promote a healthy urinary tract.
Meanwhile, strawberries contain high amounts of vitamin C and malic acid, which helps to whiten canine teeth.
As fresh or frozen fruits, these berries make good healthy dog treats in the summer.
Carrots
Carrots are great for your dog’s skin, teeth, eyes, digestive system, and immune system. As a kitchen staple, carrots are easy to come by. You can give your dog an appropriately sized piece or puree it into a dog treat.
Sweet Potatoes and Pumpkins
Both of these sweet orange fall foods are great for digestive health. Rich in fiber as well as many vitamins and minerals, sweet potatoes and pumpkins are excellent snacks or dinner additions for dogs.
Bananas
Starchy and rich in potassium and vitamin C, bananas are a low-cholesterol treat that dogs can enjoy. Be aware that they are high-calorie foods that should be given in moderation.
Bone Broth
Dogs naturally like bone broth or anything having to do with red meat. Bone broth promotes bone health and can be served with wet or dry dog food or in an ice cube form on hot summer days.
Chia Seeds, Sardines, and Anchovies
These three foods are all rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which promote healthy skin, coats, brains, hearts, and more. With these foods, in addition to their vitamins, you can’t go wrong. The only issue might be an unsavory, fishy breath.
Eggs
As canines, dogs need a lot of protein. Eggs are an excellent source of that! If you cook eggs for your pet, do not add any extra salt or seasonings, as they could harm your pet’s health.
