Lauren Hess is one of Everhart Veterinary Medicine’s most recently-acquired esteemed veterinarians, having a compassion for animals and a love of science from a very early age and joining the prestigious clinic just this year. A Maryland native, Lauren grew up in nearby Ellicott City, and currently resides in Canton—making her uniquely sympathetic to those local pet parents who share her love of their own furry family members.
“I grew up loving animals and I worked in a veterinary hospital throughout high school and during my undergraduates studies,” Lauren recalls. “I didn’t really decide to pursue it as a career until I was part way through my Master’s Degree in Literature.” She adds, “I started with an interest in English Literature, but about three-quarters of the way through that Graduate program, I decided that my love of animals had gotten the better of me!” Lauren soon finished her education prerequisites and was accepted into the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. She now specializes as a small animal veterinarian, with particular interests in dermatology and soft tissue surgery.
Along with her fiancé, the well-rounded veterinarian is the proud pet parent of a six-year old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. “His name is Rigsby,” she says, laughing. “And he loves playing fetch with us with his own little lacrosse ball!”
