Is it a rainy day? Exercise your pet indoors in these fun ways.
Not every day is sunny, but that doesn’t mean you have to do without your daily exercise, and your pet doesn’t have to do without, either. When it is too cold or hot to go outside, or it’s pouring rain, there are still ways you can exercise your dog indoors.
Play with Your Dog
A pet dog is more than just a creature living in your house. A pet is practically part of the family! Playing with your pet is a great way to bond and get in some physical exercise. You can play ball, wrestle with a tug toy, or make your pet jump with a teaser pole.
Run Around
Playing “tag” is also another fun way to pass the time indoors while expending your dog’s energy. Your pet might automatically start inviting you to chase, and soon, you’ll be darting around pretending to catch each other. Just like interacting with your dog with dog toys, you should remember to keep breakables out of the way.
Hop on the Treadmill
Do you like using a treadmill or want to get your physical health in great shape no matter the weather? Your dog can walk on the treadmill with you! Be aware of whether or not your dog can keep up with you on the treadmill and when it gets too tired to continue.
Conquer an Obstacle Course
You can also get creative with an obstacle course made for your dog! It can be holiday-themed or just made of makeshift items or kids’ play tunnels. If you like building things, you could also try out building your own! An obstacle course could be a maze of a course that involves tunneling, jumping, and climbing. Don’t forget the treat at the end!
Learn a New Trick
Teaching your dog a new trick is a great way to bond and stimulate your pet mentally. A new trick could be as simple as “sit” or as complex as doing a backflip. Of course, you should already know how to train a pet to do such a thing safely before attempting.
