"Paso Fino Ace of Hearts" & "Paso Fino Jack of Hearts"
Meet "Paso Fino Ace of Hearts" (left) and his younger house-mate "Paso Fino Jack of Hearts" (right).
Tenley, one of Everhart Veterinary Hospital's Kennel Assistants is co-owner of Ace and Jack, along with her family.
Ace and Jack were both named after the Paso Fino Horse; a horse prized for its smooth, natural, four beat, lateral ambling gait. One of the two main groups of horses in the U.S. called the Paso Fino, the "Pure Puerto Rican Paso Fino" (a.k.a. PPR), were imported from Puerto Rico, where Tenley's family originated from.
Tenley's grandmother has always loved the Paso Fino. She believes that the prancing gait of the Chihuahua mimics the gait of these beautiful horses and the family named them accordingly.
Ace is 3 years old, and the family often jokes that he should have been named the "Ace of Diamonds" due to his multiple health problems requiring expensive medical treatment and surgery. He had the standard puppy wellness care, had neuter surgery, and then had to have surgery to repair a cherry eye and also on both knees for luxated patellas - all before he was a year old! Unlike most Chihuahuas, he loves children and strangers. He even loves to sit on his surfboard in the swimming pool! He loves to show off his huge list of tricks to anyone who will watch, and loves to snuggle with the staff at Everhart when he comes with her to work.
Jack is the baby, and is still very much in training, trying to learn everything his big brother knows. He likes to go everywhere, from the park to the mall, and doesn't mind sitting in Tenley's purse for the trip. He loves to run, has endless energy, and knows no fear when it comes to making friends at the dog park - playing with Mastiffs and Bulldogs, as well as other smaller dogs - every dog is just a funny-looking Chihuahua to him. He is a total clown that doesn't mind being dressed up in all kinds of funny outfits, and has even starred in his own short dance video.
